CONVERSATIONS WITH UNCLE DAVID AND UNCLE PAUL KILLINS SUMMER - 1999
____________________________________________________________________________Edie Bell Killins Moore
Uncle David called me after he received a draft of the Killins Family Booklet. He told me that he was pleased that we were writing about the history of the Killins family. He shared the following information with me: Grandma Florence W Killins was the eight child in her family. There were thirteen children in her family. Grandma Florence's mother was Edie Cole and her Father was Charles Anderson. He talked about Grandma's sisters that he remembered. One of the sisters-Christine Anderson was a School Teacher. He also remembered Grandma Florence's sister Ann. Uncle David remembered when Grandpa Will went blind in one eye. Grandpa Will asked one of the girl's to call him so that he would know. Uncle David sent money to Grandpa to help out.
Uncle David was single for a long time. During that time he also helped many of his nieces and nephews. Thanks -------Uncle David
I also remember Uncle David, Uncle Molphus, my Dad Mars Killins and my Mother Ruth Killins along with Willie D. driving down to Hazlehurst, MS. on one of their visits to Mississippi to visit with my family and I when I was married
Uncle Paul and I talked for a long time on the telephone this summer. He shared lots of information that he remembered about growing up. He remembered living on a farm with Grandpa Will. They grew all sorts of vegetables: peas, sweet potatoes, sugar cane and some cotton. They had fine horses. He remembered that Grandpa Will was a Mason. Uncle Paul talked about all of the jobs he held before retiring. He has worked at some of the following places: Alabama Oil Mine, Fertilizer Factory, Fulman Company, Rolling Mill Steel Detroit, Michigan, Continental Airline ---- making motors for the United States Army, Red Lake Steel----one of the largest steel mills in Michigan. Uncle Paul retired from Red Lake Steel. Uncle Paul said that he wished we all had been closer all of these years and visited more often.
Uncle Paul has some problems with his sight. However, that doesn't stop him from getting around on his on. He is over 90 years of age and is still going strong. Uncle Paul and Aunt Lillie are still in love and has been married for many many years. They wrote to me this summer after we talked on the telephone, they sent beautiful pictures of them and of other family members. The pictures will be shared and copies made at the family Reunion in August. Thanks Uncle Paul and Aunt Lillie
